A trip to Alki

I visited one of my longtime BFF's all the way in West Seattle today.  No, that doesn't sound very far away for the average bear, but I drove MYSELF....on THREE FREEWAYS to get there.  I was so far outside of my five mile radius, I thought I might need a passport upon my arrival.  But I totally made it all the way there without incident.  Victory!  I felt like I won a gold medal at the Olympics or climbed Mount Everest...yes, I felt that good about the conquering of my fear of major freeways.  Some people are afraid of heights, or public speaking, or snakes...I'm afraid of freeways, helicopters, and submarines.  (Incidentally, I am also afraid of heights, public speaking, and snakes.)  It was raining on my drive home.  I briefly contemplated pulling over until the rain stopped before I hit the freeway, but I knew that I might not come home until July if I waited for dry weather.

My friend, Kara and I have been friends since junior high.  She, unlike myself, is very adventurous.  Let me illustrate this for you:

- she travels for work all the time and goes to many far away places
- she took her children all by herself to Mexico...TO MEXICO...BY HERSELF...for spring break
- she knows how to fly an airplane
- she is gluten-free
- she can keep orchids alive

Here's what it would look like if I was talking about myself reference the same subject matter:

- I travel to the grocery store (less than 5 miles away) all the time
- I took my children to the dentist (less than 5 miles away) all by myself for spring break
- I don't understand how an airplane defies gravity, and I sometimes require sedation before I board one.
- I don't know what gluten is, but I know I consume it
- I've killed every orchid I've ever come into contact with

Here are some pictures from our day together on Alki, where my girl lives.  It is so beautiful, and there is so much to do within walking distance from her house.

We had lunch at Duke's.  I ate salmon.  A real departure from my usual chicken and pasta.
What can I say?  I'm the queen of adventure.

We walked along the beach.

Her view of the water from her house is so beautiful.

These are her beautiful orchids.  They've bloomed three or four times now.

What we do share in common is that we both have boys, we both love cats and Starbucks,
and we love each other.

Life long friends are the BEST!
You won't ever catch me eating Salmon, unless it's mixed with breadcrumbs, onion, basil, green pepper & seasoning & grilled on the flattop.

Awwe, you are so sweet! You also are in a book club and have 1 extra 2-legged boy to take care of--not to mention your special 4-legged boy Cringle! You are an inspiration to me, Hoday! Not to mention, your razzle dazzle is really fine!

Best Friends 4-Evah!
